Shabbat

Shabbat is the time in our week to pause, be uplifted, find meaning, gain perspective and feel closer to God and one another.

Shabbat evening services are also live-streamed on this website and Facebook Live every Friday at 6:15 pm.

SHABBAT HOSTS NEEDED

First Friday of each month

SHABBAT DINNER: 6:00 PM
SHABBAT SERVICE: 6:45 PM

Everyone is juggling many things every day. Wise Temple’s monthly Family Shabbat gives families a space to exhale and to add a meaningful punctuation to the end of the week. Free Shabbat dinner fosters community and fun, and also eases the stress of feeding your family at the end of a busy day. A brief Shabbat service utilizes a prayer book with language accessible for children ages 5 and older. This service is for families with school-aged children, meeting the spiritual needs of both children and adults. It combines a joyful playfulness with thought-provoking questions to challenge our minds and includes uplifting music, creative prayer and discussion. Experience the spirit and serenity of Shabbat.

Second Friday of each month

SERVICE: 6:30 PM
PLUM STREET TEMPLE

Select times throughout the year

A spiritual Shabbat prayer experience that will relax your body, renew your mind, and refresh your soul. Create a deeper sense of connection through prayer. Through meditation and mindfulness we create a deeper sense of kavanah, of intention, when we speak to God.

Select times throughout the year

This service weaves in a number of readings, meditations, musical prayers, and more on the theme of personal and communal healing. If you are in need of healing, if a loved one is in need of your healing prayers, and/or if you generally wish to support others in their healing, please carve out this hour of Shabbat.

Select times throughout the year

In our Shabbat worship, we are reminded to “Sing a new song unto God.” At this special Shabbat service, that’s exactly what we’ll do. In fact, it may just about be all we do! Join us for this melodic way to end the regular rhythm of the week and welcome the harmony of the Sabbath day.

Select times throughout the year

Experience the joy and calm of Shabbat combined with thinking, questioning and learning. Instead of a sermon, we’ll take some time to explore a topic.
Explore Jewish values and how they speak to our lives. Better understand the whys behind prayers, rituals, and texts.

  • Ideal combination of community, prayer and study to deepen the celebration of Shabbat.
  • You won’t be called on. You don’t have to have any answers. You just have to be curious.
  • Deeper understanding, greater meaning, enhanced worship. Give it a try!

Select times throughout the year

Fill the summer air with music and prayer as we celebrate Shabbat amidst God’s natural backdrop. Find peace, comfort and a close connection to God in the setting of a beautiful Hamilton County park. Bring a blanket. Bring a picnic dinner. Bring a friend.

Second and Fourth Saturday of each month

SERVICE: 10:00 AM

Music, ritual and community building are at the core of this special Shabbat morning. It’s a half-hour service geared toward our youngest children, yet rewarding for parents, older siblings, and grandparents too!

Shababa means an open space where children are encouraged to be who they are and grow at their own pace. Following the service, opportunities for snacks, crafts and open play abound. The Shababa community at Wise is open to members and non-members alike.

This service was created by YoFI (Young Family Involvement) and is sponsored by the Wise Temple Sisterhood and the Gloria and Alvin Lipson Youth Fund.

What Else

Live Stream

WHEN YOU CAN’T BE THERE IN PERSON

Join us for a live stream of Shabbat Evening Services from the Wise Center Chapel, beginning at 6:15 PM every Friday.

Can’t join at 6:15? Don’t worry. You can view services at any time during Shabbat. Just click View Archives. If it’s still Shabbat, the archived recording of Friday evening services will appear.

Childhood Play Space

On Fridays, bring the whole family to celebrate Shabbat. A fun, informal Play Space gives little ones room to explore and play when they need a break from services. Because services are broadcast in the lobby, parents won’t miss a thing.
