Shabbat Worship Options

Shabbat. The time in our week to pause, to be uplifted, to find meaning, to gain perspective, and to feel closer to God and one another.

Every Friday, Wise Temple offers a customary worship service at Wise Center in Amberley Village. Most Fridays an additional service(s) is also offered so you can choose the worship experience that best speaks to you, to your needs, and to where you are in your journey on that day, at that moment.

Check the worship calendar for dates each of the services below is offered.

Friday Evening Services

(at Wise Center in Amberley unless otherwise listed)

Shabbat Evening Services - Customary Worship Experience
Every Friday | 6:15 PM
Pre-service oneg | 5:45 PM

  • Catch your breath and begin the transition from the work week to the Day of Rest. Often our service is enhanced with the beautiful music of Shir Chadash (our congregational band), Kol Rinah (our congregational choir), or our Temple Musicians. After services, enjoy juice, challah, and an opportunity to wish each other a Shabbat Shalom. On occasion, we also gather for a community Shabbat dinner.

Family Shabbat
1st Friday of each month | 6:00 PM

  • Everyone is juggling so many things on a daily basis. Wise Temple’s monthly Family Shabbat allows families to exhale, and to add a meaningful punctuation to the end of the week together. Begin with a free Shabbat dinner (6:00pm), which fosters community and fun, and also eases the stress of feeding your family at the end of a busy day. A brief Shabbat service begins at 6:45pm and utilizes a prayer book with language accessible for children ages 5 and older.
  • Our Family Shabbat, for families with school-aged children, strives to meet the spiritual needs of both children and adults alike. By combining a joyful playfulness with thought-provoking questions to challenge our minds, and by including uplifting music, creative prayer and discussion, we experience the spirit and serenity of Shabbat.

Next Gen @ Wise - Young Adult Shabbat
2nd Friday of each month | 6:30 PM | Plum Street Temple

  • An alternative downtown Shabbat experience with live music for Young Professionals age 22 - 35. Unwind from your busy week for an hour of music, drinks, and spiritual refreshment.

Ohm Shalom - Shabbat Worship in Meditation

  • A spiritual Shabbat prayer experience that will relax your body, renew your mind, and refresh your soul. Create a deeper sense of connection through prayer. Through meditation and mindfulness we create a deeper sense of kavanah, of intention, when we speak to God.

Music Shabbat - Shabbat in Song

  • In our Shabbat evening worship, we are reminded to "Sing a new song unto God." At this special Shabbat service, that's exactly what we'll do. In fact, it may just about be all we do! Join Rabbi Danziger for this melodic way to end the regular rhythm of the week and welcome the harmony of the Sabbath day.

Limmud Shabbat - Prayer and Learning

  • Utilizing half our time in this Shabbat service for study together with Rabbi Kamrass, we explore a topic or theme so our Shabbat worship is enhanced by learning, enrichment, and timeless Jewish values. If Shabbat is the ideal time for learning (limmud), our Shabbat Limmud service provides the ideal combination of community, prayer and study to deepen the celebration of Shabbat.

Shabbat in the Park

  • Fill the summer air with music and prayer as we celebrate Shabbat amidst God’s natural backdrop. Find peace, comfort, and a close connection to God in the setting of a beautiful Hamilton County park. Bring a blanket. Bring a picnic dinner. Bring a friend.

Saturday Morning Services

(at Wise Center in Amberley unless otherwise listed)

Shabbat Morning Services
Every Saturday | 9:30 AM
Torah Study | 10:45 AM

  • Gather in an informal setting to pray, learn, and celebrate Shabbat. After services, enjoy bagels and coffee and, of course, schmoozing. Enjoy a Torah Study which is a creative and highly participatory investigation into the weekly Torah portion led by the rabbinic staff. Debating, questioning, and discussing are common, and no prior Torah experience necessary.

Shabbat Morning Bar/Bat Mitzvah Services

  • Saturdays as scheduled at either Wise Center (8329 Ridge Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236) or Plum Street Temple (720 Plum Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202)

YoFI Shababa (ages 0 - 6)
2nd and 4th Saturday of each month | 10:00 AM

  • A Young Family Shabbat Service and More

  • Music, ritual, and community building are at the core of this special Shabbat morning. A half hour service geared toward our youngest children, yet designed for parents and grandparents too! Shababa means an open space where children are encouraged to be who they are and grow at their own pace. Following the service, opportunities for snacks, crafts, and open play abound. The Shababa community at Wise is open to members and non-members alike.

Created by YoFI, Young Family Involvement.
Sponsored by the Wise Temple Sisterhood.
