SUMMARY:Tuesdays with Torah | Holocaust Remembrance Day
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Rabbi Anna Burke \nLet us explore the question: Can the Jewish people be sustained by its civil religion? The memory of the Holocaust and its lessons have been integrated into Israeli and American Jewish society both in tandem and at odds over the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. We will explore the ways in which the Holocaust has helped to shape a civil religion for Jews in both nations in this series.

SUMMARY:Tuesdays with Torah | Jewish Care: What Is It and Why Should I Care?
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Rabbi Neil Hirsch \nCare is a strange word. We know care when we see it\, but it is hard to define. We give care and we receive it. We care about ideals and principles. Sometimes it is nice not to have a care in the world. In Hebrew\, there are several words that we could use when one talks about care\, and in Jewish tradition\, we give care by visiting the sick\, comforting those in mourning\, and taking part in tikkun olam. It ends up that there’s a lot more to understanding what care is and what it isn’t. In this two-part learning series\, join Rabbi Hirsch to learn all about care\, and why we should care about caring.

SUMMARY:Torah Take 2 | The Early Music of Arik Einstein (The Israeli Frank Sinatra)
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Matt Check \nJoin us for a listening session to some of the early recordings of Arik Einstein (the Israeli Frank Sinatra). In the late 60s he released an album titled\, “Good Old Eretz Israel.” This classic of the Israeli songbook put melodies to the words of iconic Israeli poet Natan Alterman. We will listen to the songs\, unpack the lyrics and gaze into the window into the milieu and zeitgeist of Israel in its early years as a culture.

SUMMARY:Tuesdays with Torah | God Concepts in our Sacred Text that Stimulate our Personal Belief | Rabbi Lewis Kamrass
DESCRIPTION:Contrary to what most people think\, our classical literature of Bible\, Talmud and other rabbinic literature are far from monolithic in theology or emphasis on qualities of God. These great sources reveal wide-ranging ideas of God\, with many parallel tracks or viewpoints\, none competing with one another\, but each to challenge and to stimulate our own theology and personal ideas of God. Rabbi Kamrass will introduce us to some God concepts we might expect\, as well as many others that would be unexpected and even surprising and expansive in their approach from so many centuries ago. Examining these characteristics of God revealed in our literature is a sampling to whet our own spiritual appetite\, and to challenge and enlarge our own perspectives.

SUMMARY:Guest Speaker | Should We Vote As Jewish Americans or American Jews? | Dr. Zola
DESCRIPTION:Like all Americans\, Jews prioritize various issues when they approach the ballot box. However\, when Jewish cultural\, religious\, or political concerns come to the forefront\, the perennial charge of Jewish “dual loyalty” becomes particularly prominent. Dr. Gary P. Zola\, Executive Director Emeritus of the American Jewish Archives\, will explain how these questions affected our predecessors and how they may influence Jewish voting patterns in the upcoming national election.

SUMMARY:Tuesdays with Torah | Repentance\, Apologies\, and Forgiveness | Rabbi Hirsch
DESCRIPTION:Rabbi Hirsch\, Senior Rabbi Successor \nDuring the High Holy Days we focus our prayers and energy on t’shuvah\, the process of repentance\, enabling us to enter into a new year for goodness and blessing. Many use this time to repair relationships that have been fractured. Given its centrality to Yom Kippur\, t’shuvah though is often discussed though not always understood. How we understand the role of offering apologies for wrongs committed and how we understand what forgiveness is colors how we experience t’shuvah. In this three part series with Rabbi Hirsch\, explore the look\, sound\, and intent behind t’shuvah\, specifically studying how repentance works. We will use Jewish texts to better understand how we put forward our penitent hearts\, and how we are to respond when someone offers us their own.
