Helping Local Refugees
Sunday, March 3
9:15 AM – 10:45 AM
Greater Cincinnati has 25,000 refugees, with over 200 new refugees resettling to this area every year. This transition can be overwhelming and success is largely dependent on their adjustment to cultural norms. You can help by mentoring these families in ways that help them thrive.
We are partnering with Refugee Connect, an organization committed to helping refugees navigate often unfamiliar systems, new cultural norms, and language barriers in order to thrive in our communities. Refugee Connect has a volunteer coordinator specifically focused on providing the support you need as you volunteer your time and talents toward this important work.
If you are interested in helping the refugees in our community, please RSVP to attend the following meeting on Sunday, March 3rd at Wise Center.
9:15 AM – 10:00 AM
Informational Meeting (learn about refugees, their needs, and how you can help)
10:00 AM – 10:45 AM
Training and Additional Discussion (if after hearing the informational portion, you decide to become involved, stay for a deeper discussion of next steps and some small group training)
Opportunities to help will include working with adults or with families. Mentoring will be explained fully at the meeting but could include activities like helping with college applications or resumes, exploring free community events together like the local library, parks, or entertainment, or providing instructions on technology such as cell phone usage and translation apps. All of this important work helps refugees reach their full potential as individuals, families, and civic and community leaders.
As you think about your involvement, understand that you can volunteer your time as an individual, couple, or family, or share the responsibilities with other Wise Temple members. Any role you choose to play will have a valuable impact.
If you have questions or are interested in being involved but cannot attend this meeting, please reach out to Alex Burte, Program Manager, 513.793.2556 or email@example.com.
