In Judaism, charity is not merely an act of giving; it is a moral commitment of faith. Although many people believe that the Hebrew word tzedakah means charity, the word's roots convey much more - a combination of righteousness, fairness, and justice.
Today, each gift to Wise Temple reflects this tradition. Your support makes possible inspiring worship services led by outstanding clergy; stimulating educational opportunities for children, teens and adults; Jewish cultural programming; connection and caring for our congregational community; fulfillment of our commitment to tikkun olam (repairing the world); membership to all who wish to join regardless of ability to pay full dues/fees; and maintenance and preservation of our landmark sanctuary building.
Indeed, Isaac M. Wise Temple rests on a solid foundation of worship, education, and community. Our ancestors laid the cornerstone and many generations have built upon it. Our children and grandchildren will inherit it as a priceless legacy. It is the challenge of our generation today to preserve and to strengthen what past generations have built.
In addition to giving to a fund, we hope that you will consider helping us increase our permanent endowment funds for Wise Temple and the Plum Street Temple. Our endowment funds are critical to meet current and future needs of our Temple community. Income from the Endowment Funds allows our programs and services to flourish throughout the Congregation and help preserve and maintain our magnificent Plum Street Temple.
